This Week’s Marketing Nuggets: Grads, Foursquare and Texting

by Amanda Brandon on May 20, 2010

Many blogs do a news round-up each week on their blogs. I thought it would be fun to take this concept and give you some “marketing nuggets” each week. Please share what you want to see in this weekly MHM Blog feature in the comments below.

Nugget One: Recognize graduates this week and next.

It’s graduation week for many schools – this week and next. If you haven’t done so, hop on over to the menu editor and create a special for graduate celebrations. Nobody wants to cook after graduation; they want to eat out and celebrate! Let’s help them. Share your special in the restaurant, via social media and e-mail marketing. Hats off to filling your seats!

Nugget Two: Educate yourself on this popular social network – Foursquare.

It’s a location-based social media platform that allows customers to become “mayor” of a restaurant. Starbucks is giving these mayors discounts at their stores nationwide. Go check it out. Mashable has a great intro article on it here.

Nugget Three: Check out your customer database.

Do you know if the customers numbers are cell or home phone numbers? Most likely they are cell phones. If you can’t make the distinction, it may be time to set up a way to classify them. This is a growing way to market to your customers. Texting specials and promotions is affordable and effective. GatorChef’s blog has a great article on Using Mobile Technology for Restaurant Marketing this week.
